Before you book
- Cars in this class: Peugeot 108, Citroën C1, Hyundai i10, Toyota Aygo. You book the class, not a named car. You will get one of these models or another car of the same size, never a smaller one, and you are told which car it is when you collect.
- You choose manual or automatic when you book, and the car you collect has that gearbox. Automatics in this class start at €6.30 a day.
- Licence held 2 years or more, minimum age 21. Drivers under 25 pay a young-driver fee, shown in your total.
- The hold needs a credit card in the main driver's name. Debit, prepaid and virtual cards are not accepted for it.
- Fuel is like for like. The level is recorded with you at pickup and the car comes back at the same level.
- Add your flight number at checkout so delays are tracked and your car is held.
- Pick-up and drop-off are both in Luqa. One-way returns are not available.
The city car in Malta
The smallest class: four seats, a boot of about 170 litres and a body short enough for the tight bays of Sliema, St Julian’s and the old village cores, where streets narrow to one lane. Two people with cabin bags travel in comfort.
Four adults fit for short trips, but then the boot holds day bags only. If you land with hold suitcases, the economy class is one size up.
Will a large suitcase fit in a city car?
One will. The class is rated for one bag and the boot holds about 170 litres with the rear seats up. For more, book the economy class or bigger.
Is a city car a good choice for Valletta?
For the streets around it, yes: it is the easiest size to park. Valletta itself has controlled vehicle access (CVA), which charges for time spent inside, so most visitors park in Floriana, just outside the walls, and walk in. Our parking in Valletta guide covers the car parks and the park and ride.
