The cheapest way to hire here is to travel outside the summer peak, book as early as you can for July and August, and pick the smallest class that fits your group, since Malta's narrow streets reward small cars anyway. Watch out for low headline prices elsewhere that add the airport fee, insurance or mileage at the desk: comparing all-in figures is the only fair test. It is a real, low starting point, and we would rather show it honestly than dress it up.
The reason this matters is that a low headline price elsewhere is often only the beginning. A rate quoted without VAT, without the airport fee, or with a mandatory extra bolted on at collection can end up well above a higher-looking all-in figure.
