The north of Malta is more spread out and hilly than the harbour towns, and the best beaches and viewpoints are not always close to a bus stop. With a car you can reach Mellieħa Bay (Għadira), Golden Bay and the quieter coves on your own schedule, and carry everything you need for the day.
One of Mellieħa’s big advantages is how close it is to the Gozo ferry at Ċirkewwa, only around 10 minutes further north. You can drive your hire car straight onto the ferry and explore Gozo for the day. Standard vehicle ferry fares are paid at the terminal and can change, so check before you travel.
Wherever you stay, the price is the same all-in figure: VAT, the airport fee, collision damage waiver, third-party cover and unlimited mileage are included, and the car is collected in Luqa, 08:00 to 02:00 every day.
